How often do you wish to receive our Test Alert reminders?(Required)

Why should I register?

Fire protection equipment is essential in your home and office – it is a legal requirement to have smoke alarms in all states – but it is vital that they actually work! You’ll only know if they are going to work if you test them regularly.

How often should I test?

You should at least test your smoke alarms when you change their batteries, and the industry communicates this the most at the beginning of daylight saving (or on April Fools’ Day in states that do not observe daylight saving). But there is no reason not to test your smoke alarms more often. We can help you.

What do I do to test?

Every smoke alarm has a test button. Press it for at least 10 seconds to ensure it screams so you know it works. If it doesn’t go off, change its battery with a new one and try again. If it then still doesn’t work, it looks like you need to replace the alarm.

How long do alarms last?

Smoke alarms must be replaced every 10 years. Check the back of yours for its expiry or manufacture date.

How do I test my other equipment?

For fire blankets, ensure it is at an easy-to-get-to location and clear of obstruction – in the event of a fire you’ll need to get access to it immediately. For fire extinguishers, the same also applies plus every six months you should also check the status on the dial located on the extinguisher’s neck, and give them a shake to ensure the powder doesn’t settle. Extinguishers in the workplace have more stringent requirements and they must be properly inspected by a technician.
